THERE ARE FOUR COMPONENTS TO THIS CLASS:
By far, the most important of these two are reading and writing. If you read enough and write enough, the grammar and vocabulary should come. But so as to accelerate this process, we will spend a portion of each class on grammar and vocabulary as well. It is my most sincere hope that you are the sort of person who likes to read—indeed, that reading is the sort of thing you do even when itÕs not assigned as homework. In fact, this is assumed by the curriculum. With this in mind, I ask that each student in this class complete 1000 pages of Òoutside readingÓ on his own—that is, in addition to the usual homework. The choice of book and genre are yours[1], but when you finish the book, be sure to record the title and number of pages in the spaces below, and have your parents acknowledge (by signing in the space provided) that, to the best of their knowledge, you actually did read the book. Then, fill out the ÒBook ResponseÓ provided, and hand it in to me. I will give you a replacement.
